In order of the foundation ' Rotterdam and the Marines" Willem Noyons copied the scultpure of Johan de Witt, founder of the Corps Marines. The sculpture was made out of synthetic material in his own workshop. The original was designed in marble by the sculptor Aert Quellijn (1609-1668) of Antwerp.
